Hand-made on a traditional loom, the vibrant mostaza (mustard) palette is symbolic of the bright colours of the cactus fruit. Growing throughout the arid Peruvian landscape, the fruit is an essential source of food for native birds.
Each rug is hand-woven in a small atelier in Peru using virgin sheep wool. The artisans produce the textiles on a horizontal loom. As they weave different patterns, they use at least two different techniques to create one rug. It takes three days to dye and prepare the wool fibres and an additional eight days to weave the rug.
